  • Regulations and Requirements

The Stuttgarter Zeitung newspaper interviews architect Sophie Frank:

„When you work extensively with architects, the question of appropriateness always comes up in conversations. What do you really need (…), what can you do without? Everyone longs for simple, appropriate solutions. But as we know, the simplest things are often the hardest, and this is especially true in the German construction industry, which groans under the weight of more than 3,500 regulations and requirements. That’s why it’s all the more astonishing to see that it can actually be done (…)

The architect also mentions the other considerations that play a role in a careful renovation. Not everything has to be implemented immediately; some things can be postponed. ‚Roof insulation would have been useful, but it didn’t fit into the budget, says Frank. ‚As a compromise, the stage ceiling was insulated until the roof is also renewed during the exterior renovation – plaster, paint, windows, shutters – which is due in five to ten years.
